Biography of Artist Dennis Storrusten:
Dennis Storrusten has lived in his 'hometown' of Great Falls, Montana since 1964. He is by trade a sign painter and artist/graphic designer. In his 35 years of sign painting, he has also pinstriped on, designed and painted graphics for, and flamed many classic cars in Montana. His hobby of building and restoring classic vehicles has spanned even longer than that, and he has owned over 300 cars. As Dennis states, "I have loved automobiles since I was 12 years old, watching my older brothers and their friends work on and drive these powerful machines." The idea of putting real people and their 'rides' in paintings incorporating historic places with classic old signs came to him about 7 or 8 years ago. In 2005, he began painting in his series of 5 pieces entitled "Real Cars, Real People, Real Places". He works in the medium of acrylics and his style has been described as photorealism. The series is a blending of his love of the craft and artistry of classic cars as well as the places these cars frequented. Each piece is a detailed rendering of local people and their cars set in a historically memorable place in Montana where someone would likely have seen a similar scene. The fourth in the series, Cruisin' the Drag, was set in Great Falls and was completed in December of 2007. He is fifth and final piece, GTOS Around, completes the "Real Cars, Real People, Real Places" series. It was completed in the summer of 2008. Future art from Dennis will be pieces entitled Real Montana featuring rustic as well as restored vehicles in realistic settings from all over Montana. His artwork can be seen at his "Car Art" studio at his home or online at "www.MontanaCarArt.com". His works are also featured at local galleries during certain car events throughout the year.
